FC FBLA at Nationals

More than 12,000 of America’s best and brightest high school students traveled to San Antonio, Texas to attend the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference.  Among them were seven students from Fillmore Central High School, their adviser Cindy Talley, and adult chaperones Valerie Poppert, Katy Nun and Cherie Domeier. The National Leadership Conference was held June 28–July 3 where participants from across the United States, U.S. territories, and international chapters enhanced their business skills, expanded their networks, and competed in more than 70 business-related competitive events.  Nebraska FBLA awards students the chance to compete nationally by qualifying for one of top three positions in each event based on performance at the State Leadership Conference in April.

Fillmore Central students competed in six individual and team events.  Recent graduate, Braden Myers, finished his involvement in FBLA with a seventh place finish in the Accounting II event.  Fillmore Central’s other participants included the American Enterprise chapter event which was prepared and presented by Wyatt Nun, Trevor Meyer and Faith Lauber, Abigail Parten and Wyatt Nun who competed in Public Speaking events, Ryan Poppert who entered the Local Annual Report event, and Trevor Meyer and Ethan Reinsch who competed in Accounting I and Computer Problem Solving respectively.

Noteworthy was Fillmore Central FBLA’s performance in chapter events.  FC was one of a few Nebraska chapters to be named a national outstanding chapter. The Fillmore Central Chapter also received five other chapter recognitions including the Chapter Challenge consisting of the Super Sweeps, Non-stop November, and Action Awareness projects and the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.  The awards were part of a comprehensive national competitive events program sponsored by FBLA-PBL that recognizes and rewards excellence through the completion of numerous broad-based business and community activities.

In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, assisted in electing the new national officer team and enjoyed the San Antonio Riverwalk.  The Nebraska delegation traveled one day early to the conference allowing time for the Fillmore Central group to visit numerous San Antonio sites including the Alamo, Marketplace, and SeaWorld.
