Fillmore Central FFA Officers Attend Training and Help with Ag Safety Day

Nebraska FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) was held at The Leadership Center in Aurora on May 22-23, 2023.  Fillmore Central FFA advisor Kurt VanDeWalle and the 2023-2024 Fillmore Central FFA Officer Team attended this 2 day training. This year’s officer team includes Lilly Srahjans, Blake Nun, Carson Asche, Bailey Hafer, Peyton Komenda, Cooper Schelkopf, Bryson Hafer, and Austyn Nun.

The training sessions touched on; Officer Job Responsibilities, Building Leadership Skills, and Team Chemistry.  The Fillmore Central FFA officers got to work with officers from other Nebraska FFA Chapters, sharing ideas and building friendships.  They sharpened their skills by competing in the Opening Ceremony Competition.  The highlights of the conference was meeting and working with State FFA officers.  These officers are outstanding leaders that had a great deal to share.  The officers also enjoyed the dance they held at the end of day 1. The 2022-2023 Chapter Scrapbook received a gold rating, which was created by last year’s Historian, Peyton Komenda. This recognition was presented at the banquet.  Mr. VanDeWalle also spoke during the banquet, informing the audience about The Leadership Center being started by a group of ag teachers and is owned by the Nebraska Vocational Agriculture Foundation, which is a board comprised of ag teachers and other supporters.

It was beneficial to have the entire team together to build on friendships and ideas to make our chapter strong.  Our officer team will have plenty of information to share with the entire FFA Chapter in the school year to come.

The officer team and fellow FFA chapter members helped with Progressive Ag Safety Day on the 25th of May. They lead groups of youth from station to station. There were also members that were presenters on Bike Safety.. Ag safety day was held at the fairgrounds and had various booths ranging from fire and burn safety to grain safety. There were 9 stations in total. Thank you to all the volunteers that took time out of their day to help present to the kids!
