FFA State Land Judging

Fillmore Central Competes in Land Judging

On Wednesday, October 5th, Fillmore Central’s Natural Resource and Plant Science classes competed in the South Central Area Land Judging Contest. There were 363 competitors, 89 full teams, and 19 schools competing.

The Land Judging Competition involves classifying and scoring four fields or sites that are located in a close proximity to one another. The contestants evaluate the land on the following factors: depth of soil favorable for root development, surface soil texture, subsoil permeability, slope, topsoil thickness, and percentage of erosion. The students who competed in Land Judging this year spent weeks in class learning about each of these factors and practicing how to judge the land based on said factors.

Of the 16 competitors from Fillmore Central, four of them place in the top 30 and will be competing at State Land Judging in Scottsbluff. Those four students include: Carson Asche (1st Place), Bryson Hafer (8th Place), Breckan Hoban (8th Place), and Lilly Srajhans ( 27th Place). These four scores placed them as the first place team. There were five students who placed in the top half. Those students are: Makin Girmus (35th Place), Mason Simacek (82nd Place), Hadley McCoy (113th Place), Carly Lukes (130th Place), and Treygan Kramer (118th Place). Other students that competed are as follows: Addison Wolf, Jorden Engle, Waylon Rayburn, Micheal Anderson, Roman Gaston, Maggie Fushia, and Connor Sieber.
