KB and 3B reading buddies
Thank you to Christin Lovegrove (school board), Heather Mumm (Girl Scouts), Daniel Andrews (Boy Scouts), and Jenny Hoarty (city council) for coming into 3rd grade to be part of our citizenship and civic participation unit. 3rd grade social studies students are learning about what a good citizen is and does, rights vs responsibilities, government services, community involvement, and how to disagree in respectful ways. They will wrap up the unit by planning and implementing a service learning project as a class.
The FC CTE teachers organized their third annual Reality Check for the freshman on Friday January 2nd. With the help of over 15 local business members from the community the freshman learned just how fast their future potential income could go. The freshman told Mrs. Patterson their desired career and she did some math to see what their take home income would be per month. Then the students took those number and used it to "pay" for monthly bills such as a mortgage, insurance, groceries, phone/ tv and many other things. This event was put together in hopes that the freshman would start to think seriously about what kind of job and lifestyle they want and if those two things will work together. We also had Jon Vanderford as a special guest. You can catch this story featured on 1011's Our Town Geneva the week of February 12th with the full segment airing on the 16th.

This week the FC FBLA hosted a Penny War between homerooms to raise money to donate to our local food pantry. Mr. Smith's homeroom came out on top with +14,998 points ($232.83)! The total raised was $555.28. Mr. Smith's homeroom received homemade breakfast sandwiches as their prize this morning! Thank you to all of the students that donated!
